about

This was the first tune that Ryan Cohan wrote additional parts for and it really brought it to life. The arrangement for the melody at the end still gives me chills. Rob had so many suggestions for this tune in the studio that also really added to the finished product as well. It seemed like every piece evolved but this one was right from the start. It's a simple melody that I wrote in an attic bedroom in Cleveland that kind of morphed into a keystone for the album. I rarely enjoy listening to anything I've done but I can still listen to this track. I feel Matt's bass solo really captures the spirit of the piece as well, and it (like most things Matt does) is full of seemingly simple complexity that drips beauty. It's the track on the record that makes me smile every time.

about

Chad McCullough Chicago, Illinois

Dan McClenaghan writes, trumpeter Chad McCullough "is a rare instrumentalist who makes each note sound as if it were imbued with a deeper meaning. Certainly a player with great chops, his approach is one that is measured and deliberate, often introspective, sometimes gorgeously melancholic, and one that employs a continuity of mood and atmosphere that the best recordings have.” ... more
